Special giving opportunity

Help the Congregational Library acquire The Minutes and Papers of the Westminster Assembly, 1643-1653.

The Westminster Confession has long been a cornerstone of the faith for many Congregationalists. Young readers learned it in The New England Primer, and ministers made it central to American Protestant theology.

The CLA owns a rare copy of the first edition of the Westminster Confession from 1647, but as with all centuries-old theological texts, anyone wishing to study the Westminster Confession benefits from a resource that explains the document’s historical and ideological context.

Help us acquire the recent authoritative edition of The Minutes and Papers of the Westminster Assembly, 1643-1653, edited by Dr. Chad Van Dixhoorn, one of the speakers for our October 20th event. This resource provides important new insights into the thinking of the ministers and theologians who spent over a decade drafting these enduring statements of faith.

An anonymous donor has offered to match $1 for every $2 donated up to the full acquisition cost. Every gift will go even further toward making this resource available to students, scholars, and anyone curious about their Congregational heritage.
