Historical Note

The church was gathered on November 30, 1748 as the East Church in Attleboro, and was incorporated as the Second Congregational Church on March 1, 1893. It served the East Precinct of Attleboro, which was incorporated in 1743, when the Second Parish in Attleboro was organized. The Second Congregational Parish in Attleboro or Congregational Society in the Second Precinct of Attleboro was incorporated in 1807. The proprietors of the Meeting House were organized in 1824.

Notes Of Filming Records, 1933-1994, February 1996:

There were numerous objects adhered to the record book pages filmed for reel 1. If the objects could fit on the record book page and could easily be removed, the page was detached and mounted with archival quality plastic photo corners. If there was information on both sides of the page or if the insert was oversize, the page was removed and placed in an acid free folder in the record book, with the record book number and page number written lightly on the document and on the folder. These objects were removed for preservation purposes, as the tape, staples and paper clips the documents were originally adhered with will eventually discolor the pages. An "INSERT" target was placed before these pages when they were being filmed.

There are some pages that were glued into the record books. These pages could not be removed without severely intrusive methods and were left as they were found.
