Historical Note

This collection documents the Michigan Conference, but mostly the Detroit Association while it was under the auspices of the Congregational Christian denomination. It has since evolved. The current association is called the Detroit Metropolitan Association and is part of the United Church of Christ (UCC). The library, at the time of this collection's arrangement, did not have a complete copy of the history of the organization and the current Detroit Metropolitan Association's site does not include a history of the organization.

Scope of Collection

This collection covers a portion of the first half of the 20th century. There are three distinct divisions within the collection. First, over half the collection are the Trustees meetings. The second largest section is comprised of women's groups, which have a great deal of overlap. It is unclear if the Union, the Missionary Union, and the Fellowship are actually three distinct groups, or if it's simply a name change, which is extremely common with this type of Congregational church group. Finally, the Education Committee has a small representation comprising two folders.

Arrangement

Because there is only one box of material, there is no official set of subsections. The annual meeting minutes are first, followed by Trustees, then Education, and finally Women's. Each of these sections are arranged as close to chronological order as possible.
