Archive Collection Usage Policies
The following is the document the library uses every time a researcher uses material from the Rare Book Room. Researchers are encouraged to familiarize themselves with these rules before they visit the library. However, the researcher and Librarian or Archivist will go over the document before work begins on site.
Access
Permission to examine items requires completion of an application form and an introductory interview. Permission to use materials may be limited by certain conditions:
- Restrictions imposed by donor.
- Protection of personal privacy.
- Fragile or poor condition of items.
- Use of unprocessed material is at the discretion of the archivist.
Use
- Material is distributed one folder at a time
- Notes must be taken using pencil.
- Researchers wear gloves when handling delicate materials.
- Smoking, food or drink are not permitted on the Library premises.
- Materials must be returned to the staff by 4:15 p.m.
- There is an exit interview with the archivist or librarian when work is completed.
Reproductions
- The library follows copyright laws when making photocopies. Researchers are encouraged to review current federal policies before they begin their work. We will make photocopies at 25 cents an exposure, subject to our discretion.
- Researchers are welcome to bring laptops and digital cameras when they visit.
Research
The library has a list available upon request of independent local researchers for those patrons not able to visit us personally. Alternatively, we charge $25 an hour for any research request that takes more than half an hour of work, subject to the library staff's discretion.
