Congregational History Mini Course --
"Growing Our Roots Deeper: Exploring the Congregational Christian Tradition"

July 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29. 1-4pm

Library Director Peggy Bendroth will be teaching a five-week summer course, offering an in depth exploration of the American Congregational Christian tradition, from its Puritan roots to the denominational merger which created the United Church of Christ in 1957.

  • July 1 - Introduction: The Congregational Idea
  • July 8 - From “Independent” to Congregational: The English Reformation and the Puritan Migrations
  • July 15 - From Puritan to Yankee: The Congregational Way in the Early Republic
  • July 22 - From Local to National: Becoming a Denomination in the Post-Civil War Era
  • July 29 - From One to Many: The Politics of Merger
  • Cost: $75 per person

    Library Director Peggy Bendroth will guide participants to the city's famous landmarks, from Old South Church to Park Street.
